Appoint professionals as ministers, cleric urges FG

The Archbishop of Anglican Arch-Diocese of Enugu, Most Rev. Emmanuel Chukwuma, has urged the Federal Government to reshuffle its cabinet and appoint relevant professional to man the ministries.
Chukwuma told the News Agency of Nigeria in Enugu on Tuesday that appointing the right professionals in the ministries would produce results. “How can you appoint a lawyer into the Works and Housing Ministry when he has never been an engineer?, Chukwuma asked.
“Or appoint a lawyer to oversee the highly technical telecoms and communication field. “Again, leaving a medical doctor to handle people-oriented and sensitive labor issues; these are all inappropriate from common sense,’’ he said.
Babatunde Fashola, a lawyer and former governor of Lagos State is the Minister in charge of the combined power, works and housing ministry, while Adebayo Shittu, also a lawyer is the minister of communications. Dr. Chris Ngige, a medical doctor, former senator, and governor is the minister of labor. According to him, to get the best of political appointees, I think that people should be appointed to handle sectors that are in their areas of professional specialization.
The clergyman suggested the appointment of the likes of former Gov, Adams Oshiomhole, who has been an insider in labor issues, to manage the Ministry of Labour and Productivity as an individual who was abreast of labor issues. He urged Nigerians to continue to pray for the recovery of the nation’s economy.
“The Holy Bible has instructed us all to continue to pray for our leaders as well as for the good and progress of our land (the nation).
“So all Christians owe it a duty to always pray for our leaders,’’ he admonished.
