Army Parades 10 Repentant Boko Haram Terrorists
The Nigerian Army has paraded 10 Boko Haram terrorists who voluntarily surrendered themselves to the military authorities after the fall of Sambisa forest.
The Army also confirmed the arrest and detention of Alhaji Shettima Lawan Mafa, the chairman of Mafa Local government area for harbouring a fleeing commander of Boko Haram terrorists.
Addressing Journalists in Maiduguri yesterday at the theatre command, the commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, major Gen Lucky Irabor also said that it has rescued 1400 captives in the aftermath of Sambisa onslaught.
According to Irabor, four of the repentant Boko Haram Terrorists are from Mamman Nur faction while the remaining 6 are from the Abubakar Shekau faction.
On the case of the chairman of Mafa local government who is currently in the custody of the military, Irabor said the true position is that the chairman was arrested for harbouring a Boko Haram suspect in his house, adding that investigation is still ongoing to unravel the truth of the matter.
While speaking on the rescue, Irabor said out of the 1400 rescued people, 148 are male while 455 are females in addition to 310 female children.
“The repentant Boko Haram terrorists will undergo reformationary measures before a final decision will be taken on them by the Commander in Chief.
“ We decided to parade them to remove doubts about our operations as well as letting the world know that Nigerian Army respects human rights as can be seen in those paraded,” Irabor said.
On their part, two of the repentant terrorists (names withheld) who spoke on behalf of others, said they have laid down their arm to embrace peace.
