Ese Oruru: Again, judge’s absence stalls Yunusa’s trial

The absence of Justice Ajiya Nganjiwa of the Federal High Court, yesterday, again stalled the trial of Yunusa Dahiru, who allegedly abducted Ese Oruru in Bayelsa State last year. Dahiru, alias Yellow, who was arraigned on March 8, 2016, is standing trial on a five-count charge of criminal abduction, illicit sex, sexual exploitation and unlawful carnal knowledge of Ese.

Nganjiwa adjourned to June 2 for hearing on the substantive suit, having granted the prosecution request to take the evidence of Ese in private. The case was further fixed for December 8, 2016, and is yet to be heard since then.
The trial was stalled again yesterday, when the trial judge did not sit. Ese Oruru, a minor, was allegedly abducted by Dahiru in August 2015, taken to Kano State, converted to Islam and married off without her parents’ consent. Oruru, who was already pregnant when rescued, was reportedly delivered of a baby girl in May 2016 at the Bayelsa Government House Clinic, Yenagoa, while in police protective custody.
