The National Agency for Foods and Drugs Control Agency (NAFDAC), has arraigned one Yakubu Kabiru at the Federal High Court, Lagos over alleged importation of fake and unregistered mosquito coils into the country.
NAFDAC in charge number FHC/L/87c/16, alleged that the accused person who resides at Customs Quaters Road, Seme, Badagry, Lagos, had on January 14, 2016, imported a fake and unregistered mosquito coil, with brand name ‘Green Arrow Plant Mosquito Coil’, into the country.
The accused was arraigned on three counts charge bordering on importation of fake, banned and unregistered product.
The accused however pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Upon the plea of accused person, the prosecutor, Mr. Shamaki, urged the court to remand him in Prison’s custody.
However, counsel to the accused person, Mr. Emeka Nathaniel, in an oral application, urged the court to admit bail to his client in the most liberal terms.
But the trial judge, Justice AbdulAziz Anka, turned down the oral application, and ordered the lawyer to file proper bail application and serve same on the prosecution.
The judge consequently remanded the accused in Prison’s custody, pending the hearing of his bail application and adjourned his trial till January 31, 2017.
