Three
people were shot dead and several others wounded on Tuesday
evening by suspected Fulani militiamen at Samaru Kataf Market in
Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Sources
said the incident occurred at about 6.30pm when the gunmen who
made their way into the market on a motorcycle opened fire on
traders and fled.
Zangon
Kataf is in the southern part of the state, an area riddled with ugly
incidents of bloody attack in one place or the other for months now,
despite peace accord reached between Fulani and indigenous
people of the area.
It
would be recalled that, worried by the orgy of destruction of lives
and property arising from the ethno crisis, the immediate past
Head of military government, General Abdulsalami Abubakar had
visited the area with members of his peace committee and discussed
peace with the warring groups.
Prior
to the former Head of State’s visit, the Inspector -General of
Police had been there and held a whole day meeting the people
who agreed to put the past behind and live in peace.
However,
Southern Kaduna is yet to know and enjoy peace even with the
presence of military and para-military personnel drafted there to
ensure peace and stability.
